1. Definition of a Core Auto Part

A core auto part is a used automotive component or assembly that can be remanufactured and resold as a high-quality refurbished product, or recycled for its housing and/or material value.
Common core items include, but are not limited to:

  • Batteries
  • Starter Motors
  • Rack and Pinions
  • Water Pumps
  • Alternators
  • Brake Calipers
  • CV Axle Assemblies
  • Gearboxes
  • Drive Shafts
  • A/C Compressors

Returning core parts supports PROTEK’s commitment to environmental sustainability by reducing landfill waste and lowering the overall cost of auto parts and repairs.

2. Core Charge

A core charge is a refundable deposit collected by PROTEK, held for a period of up to 15 business days, pending the return of the used core.

  • The amount of the core charge is determined by the remanufacturer and/or supplier based on the material value and reusability of the part.
  • This charge is added to the purchase price to incentivize the return of old cores for remanufacturing.
  • Once the core is returned and inspected, the deposit is refunded in full, provided all return conditions are met.

3. Conditions for Receiving a Full Core Refund

To qualify for a full core refund, the following conditions must be met:

  • The returned core must be an exact match to the purchased part.
  • The core must be of original equipment design (OEM)—not an aftermarket, alternate brand, or different manufacturer.
  • Cores that are disassembled, broken, cracked, or otherwise damaged will be deemed unusable and hold no refundable core value, as they cannot be remanufactured.

4. Core Return Timeframe

Customers have 15 Business days from the original purchase date to return the core along with the original invoice to receive a full refund of the core deposit.

  • Returns beyond the 15- business day window will not be eligible for refund.
  • This policy supports PROTEK’s goal of maintaining availability of remanufactured parts and minimizing downtime for all clients.

5. Core Match Requirement

Returned cores must exactly match the part purchased.

  • PROTEK will not accept cores that differ in manufacturer, brand, model, vehicle compatibility, or design.
  • Any mismatched or incorrect returns will be rejected and will not qualify for a refund.

6. Core Return Process & Responsibility

Customers, businesses, and clients are solely responsible for managing and completing their own core returns.

  • All returns must be delivered to the following location:
